Following a great conversation with Ron Parker in his new role with Interoperability, Standards and Analytics, and with Andrea MacLean, I was reminded of a set of quarterly team updates that are developed and the value that those may bring to our entire ISO Canadian standards community. Thus... here is a shared update from the last quarter on some news and happenings in our ISO health informatics technical committee. And I would ask others to continue sharing or to add your information, comments and input. Appreciation to each of you that post here on this site.

Thanks everyone and read on.

Q1 2017 ISO TC215 Update
- two key areas have been a focus of the last 3 months, particularly since there Lillehammer meeting in November.
- one is our webinar education and standards sharing / adoption / update series. We provided 3 webinars, with education and info on the use case standard, the patient summary standards set and medication management standards, including the use of IDMP at Health Canada. Particular thanks to Elizabeth Keller for coordinating those webinars and also to Mary Raphael for providing a great medication management session with Elizabeth.
- two is the annual funding submissions to Canada Health Infoway and Standards Council of Canada. Both included major updates to our work result from the past year and plans for next year.
- the work on these submissions was done by myself, Elizabeth Keller and Peter Picton.
- we were successful with the Infoway submission with funding approved to support the HOD and JIC leaders.
- on March 10, we were notified by SCC that our funding and accreditation application for 2017 was approved for the full amount possible ($10,000). Our application received 85 out of a possible 95 points. The entire SCC funding process is a very objective and point driven process. Thanks to all delegates and TC215 members that contribute so much to our standards work program.
- we also received good news on a Canadian lead work item, ISO/ NP TS 22287, the work lead by Kelly Abrams and Bev Knight. It is the Workforce Roles and Capabilities for Terminology and Terminology Services.
- major work continues on the JIC Patient Summary Standards Set. A workshop was held with one Canadian delegate and task group lead attending in person (Mike N) and two other Canadians Task Group leads attending by teleconference (Elizabeth K and Don N). Workshop concluded plans for the final stages of the inaugural standards set of JIC , Patient Summary.
- many ballots and votes continue the be effectively addressed by the SMC members from across Canada.
- the upcoming April 17-21 Meeting of TC215 in Hangzhou, is being reviewed for delegate attendance / accreditation and preparations are in the final stage. We will have a limited but effective delegation attending at that meeting.
- Elizabeth Keller has provided key coordination and communications leadership for TC/215, during Don's extended travels.
- there has been two turnovers in Infoway Support staff, both effectively managed and transitioned. Thanks to both Peter and Sari for their great work.
- further cleanup of the TC 215 SMC membership was accomplished just prior to Christmas and will continue in the next quarter
