Hello,

Here is an information briefing note from SNOMED International on restructuring of << 1187137001 |Squamous intraepithelial neoplasia (morphologic abnormality)| to properly represent the two common grading systems used globally.

Squamous intraepithelial neoplasia grading rubrics can be represented as a two-tiered system (i.e., low grade and high grade) or as a three-tiered system (i.e., grade 1, grade 2, and grade 3) based on standards of pathology practice. Translating between a two-tiered system and a three-tiered system is not uniform. While grade 1 is always considered to be low grade and grade 3 is always considered high grade, squamous intraepithelial neoplasia grade 2 is considered high grade in some organ systems but is considered low grade squamous intraepithelial neoplasia in other organ systems.

Changes are necessary in the << 1187137001|Squamous intraepithelial neoplasia (morphologic abnormality)| hierarchy to properly align grading between two and three-tiered systems. These changes need to be communicated to SNOMED CT users who use affected concepts in screening or other national use cases to ensure proper alignment with each use case.

Please see the attached briefing note for further details.
